About Langtang (Kyanjin Re Peak)
Kyanjin Ri (4,773m) is the most popular high-altitude viewpoint in the Langtang Valley. Located directly behind the village of Kyanjin Gompa, it offers a non-technical yet demanding ascent with spectacular panoramic views of glaciers and towering 7,000-meter peaks.
Kyanjin Ri serves as the "spiritual heart" of many Langtang treks, acting as a perfect acclimatization point before descending or heading to higher elevations. Sitting like a natural balcony over the Langtang Lirung glacier, the hike from Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m) involves a steep 900-meter vertical gain over a short 5–6 km round trip. The trail is a mix of rocky ridges and grassy slopes, occasionally covered in snow depending on the season. From the summit, trekkers are rewarded with a 360-degree Himalayan feast that includes Langtang Lirung (7,227m), Yala Peak (5,520m), and the Shishapangma massif in Tibet. It is often split into "Lower Kyanjin Ri" (approx. 4,300m) and the "Upper Kyanjin Ri" summit for those seeking different levels of challenge.
