About Mount Kailash Parikrama
Mount Kailash Parikrama, or Kora, is a 52 km high-altitude circumambulation of the sacred 6,638m peak in western Tibet. It is one of the world's most revered pilgrimages, believed to wash away a lifetime of sins and bring spiritual liberation.
Standing at an elevation of 6,638 metres, Mount Kailash is an unclimbed peak considered the abode of Lord Shiva in Hinduism and the centre of the universe in Buddhism, Jainism, and Bon traditions. The 3-day Outer Parikrama route begins and ends in Darchen, crossing the arduous 5,645m Dolma La Pass, the highest point of the trek. Pilgrims navigate rugged rocky terrain while witnessing the mountain's four distinct faces, traditionally said to be made of gold (North), ruby (West), lapis lazuli (South), and crystal (East). This transformative journey tests physical endurance and mental resilience in a high-altitude desert where oxygen levels are roughly 50–60% of sea level.
