About Tilicho Lake Nepal

Located at 4,919 meters in the Manang district, Tilicho Lake is one of the world's highest glacial lakes. Tucked in a dramatic high-altitude amphitheater within the Annapurna range, it is famous for its striking turquoise waters, ancient glacial origins, and deep spiritual importance to both Hindus and Buddhists.

Tilicho Lake is a high-altitude marvel that sits in a rugged, barren basin scoured by ancient glaciers. Fed primarily by the meltwater of the Tilicho Glacier and the surrounding slopes of Tilicho Peak (7,134m) and the "Great Barrier", its waters are remarkably clear and change color from deep blue to bright emerald depending on the sunlight. Reaching the lake requires a challenging side-trip from the main Annapurna Circuit, involving a trek through hazardous landslide zones and steep switchbacks. Despite its harsh, oxygen-poor environment which supports no aquatic life, it remains a major pilgrimage site. Hindus identify it as the legendary Kak Bhusundi Lake from the Ramayana, while Buddhists revere it as a site of meditation for the saint Milarepa.
